Amanda Freitag is an American chef known for being the judge of the Food Network reality series Chopped. She is also the co-host of the American Diner Revival with Ty Pennington. Thanks to her appearances on various television shows, Amanda has been brought into the spotlight. She appeared on the 2009 Martha Stewart Show and also gave recipes for the fifth season of the breast cancer show, which has now been canceled.

A year after her appearance on the Martha Show, Amanda Freitag was a judge for Chopped, a culinary game show. She also competed in the second season of Next Iron Chef, where she lost to Bobby Flay. Amanda returned to the show in 2012 and lost to Alex Guarnaschelli in her fifth season. That same year, she took part in an episode of Iron Chef America alongside Madison Cowan, who won the edited show. In 2015, she co-hosted the series American Diner Revival, a Food Network series, with Ty Pennington.

Amanda Freitag Biography

Amanda Freitag was born on May 11, 1972, in Cedar Grove, New Jersey in the United States of America as the daughter of her mother Kathleen and her father Paul. Amanda grew up with her two brothers Jason and Justin. She attended Cedar Grove High School, a public high school previously called Memorial High School.

While Amanda was in high school on Friday, her teacher discovered that she had great culinary skills and encouraged her to enroll in the Culinary Institute of America. She then went to the Culinary Institute of America and graduated in 1989. After graduation, she was hired by a popular French-Taiwanese restaurant, Vong in New York.

Career

Freitag worked under Jean-Georges Vongerichten during her time in Vong until 1994, when he ran restaurants in various capitals around the world. He owns several cookbooks. Amanda eventually left Vong and went to work at Verbena under the chef Diane Forley. Diane is the owner of Verbena Restaurant and Courtyard Garden. She is the head chef in the New American Kitchen.

Amanda Freitag traveled to Italy and France after finishing her time at Verbena Restaurant and Courtyard Garden. She stayed for a short time in Paris, France, and worked at Alain Passard’s L’Arpege Restaurant. After gaining a wealth of experience in France, Amanda returned to the USA to partner with restaurant consultant Godfrey Polistina and in 2003 opened a restaurant called Cesca Enoteca and Trattoria Restaurant. The restaurant was located on the Upper West Side of New York City and served American Italian food. She worked as a chef in the restaurant.

Executive Chef Positions

When Friday finally left Cesca, she took over the position of Executive Chef at Harrison, a modern American restaurant of the season. She worked there until 2010 when owner Jimmy Bradley returned and took over as Executive Chef. Four years later Amanda took over the position of Executive Chef at the Empire Diner in Manhattan, where she worked for a year. The Empire Diner was a restaurant that was fashionable and retro.

In addition to cooking, Freitag is also a prolific writer and has written a cookbook entitled The Chef Next Door: The Recipes of a Professional Chef for Fun, Fearless Cooking at Home. The aim of the book was to boost the readers’ self-confidence and give them pleasure in their home cooking. It is a comprehensive practical book with information, techniques, and over 100 recipes from Food Network.

There is not much information about Amanda’s relationships, her husband, her marriage, or her friends. There has been speculation that she has been in a relationship for six years with an ultrasound technician, Raphael, and she has often been seen traveling together.
