Background Information on Kimi Raikkonen

The racing champion was born on 17 October 1979 in Espoo, a suburb of the Finnish capital Helsinki, Finland. He has an older brother named Rami Raikkonen. His parents, Matti and Paula, were road builders and office workers respectively. To supplement the family income, his father Matti sometimes had to work as a night taxi driver and bouncer for a club. They didn’t have much but we’re happy with what they had in their homestead in Espoo, which had an open landscape, ideal for Kimi and his brother to play as much as they wanted.

When Kimi Raikkonen was just three years old, he and his older brother went on a motorcycle tour on miniature motocross bikes that ran on training wheels. That was how he began to develop his racing talent. At the age of 10, Kimi was already taking part in kart races, and at the age of 15, he started to take part in kart races outside of Finland (Monaco).

Because he is good at what he does, he won his first kart race in Norway in 1998 when he was 19 years old. The Swiss Formula 1 team offered him a deal after he passed a test they offered him in September 2000 at the Mugello6 circuit. Kimi Raikkonen proved that he was faster at the wheel than any other driver by scoring a championship point in the Australian Grand Prix, his debut. Although he was a rookie, he showed quite an impressive performance. Sauber finished fourth in the 2001 championship with Kimi Raikkonen as the main driver.

Raikkonen won his first Malaysian Grand Prix in 2003 and finished second behind Michael Schumacher in the points classification of the year. He also finished second in 2005 when he was with McLaren, while in 2007 he won the Australian Grand Prix and ended the season with a victory for Ferrari. Kimi left Formula One towards the end of the 2009 season and returned to rallying after a series of contract negotiations with McLaren and Mercedes GP failed, including his refusal to sign with Toyota F1, which did not have a “race car to win” and did not offer him a good salary.

On 3 April 2010, he scored his first point in the World Rally Championship (WRC) at the Jordan Rally, and later that year, on 18 September, he won his first rally race at the 2010 Vosgien Rally in France, winning all six stages of the tarmac rally.

In 2011, the talented driver formed his own rally team called ICE 1 Racing and thus took part in the 2011 World Rally Championship. Kimi finished eighth in the opening round of the Swedish Rally and seventh in the Portuguese Rally.

The year 2012 marked his return to Formula One and he made a stylish return by leading the Lotus F1 Team in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He finished the season in third place.

Kimi Raikkonen is a married man. He was married twice and has two children with his current wife. His first wife was the former Miss Scandinavia 2001 and the Finnish model Jenni Dahlman. The two met in 2002 and married on 31 July 2004. Their marriage ended when they were divorced in 2014, after having been separated in 2013. They had no child together and the reason for their divorce was not disclosed.

The Finnish driver later fell in love with the fitness and underwear model Minna-Mari Virtanen and gave birth to a son, Robin Raikkonen her first child, on 28 January 2015. The couple and the parents of one were officially married on August 7, 2016, in a ceremony in Siena, Italy. Virtanen gave birth to her second child, a little girl, on May 16, 2017. They continue to live happily together and there were no rumors of their marriage.
