Some time ago the music industry was confused. There were many questions and yet very few (if any) had answers. A new DJ had come to town and produced some incredible electronic dance music (EDM), but nobody seemed to know who he was. And so the questions began: Who is this new DJ? He was very good at what he did and the fans couldn’t help but love him, but he was masked and his identity was unknown. He was always dressed in white and he had a bucket that covered his head like a mask and was a clown. But in 2017 his identity was revealed thanks to Forbes. The masked DJ was/is Chris Comstock. What else is there to know about him? Let’s find out…
Who is Chris Comstock?
Chris Comstock is a DJ and producer of electronic dance music (EDM). In January 2017 he released a single called “Alone” which made it into the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts. His first musical attempt ever came in 2015, when he released his songs on the online streaming platform SoundCloud under the alias “Dotcom”. He was represented by the well-known EDM artist manager Moe Shalizi, who was the manager of Ookay, Jauz, and Slushii at that time. Since things still weren’t going so well, he tried some collaborations, which didn’t seem to work either. Then came the idea of being reborn, and Dotcom had to disappear, and “Marshmello” was born, and with the rebirth came the longed-for success.
Here Are 6 Facts You Should Know About The EDM Producer
Biography and Birth Facts
Chris Comstock was born on 19 May 1992 as Christopher Comstock in Amstelveen, Netherlands. Information about his parents or siblings is not available, but he moved from the Netherlands to the United States. He settled in Los Angeles, California, where he began to make music. He is of Dutch nationality and belongs to the white ethnic group. He is also known by other aliases like Marshmello and Dotcom.
Appearance, Costume Style
Chris has an appearance style. He tries to hide his identity, which he successfully did until 2017. He wears a costume when he goes to public events. This costume prevents his fans or other people from seeing his face and has become his public identity. When Forbes, an authority on asset management, published its list of the 30 richest music artists of the year under 30 in 2017, he boldly declared that Marshmello was the same person as Dotcom, whose birth name is Chris Comstock, and so the world finally came to terms with who was the white-masked DJ who took the industry by storm.
His style was probably copied by another music producer, Deadmau5, who also wears the mascot with the head of a dead mouse in uniform with his name, which is a coined way of writing “dead mouse”.
Career, Songs, and Collaborations
The music career of Chris Comstock started on March 3rd, 2015 when he uploaded his first songs “WaVeZ” via his SoundCloud account. He continued to upload more songs and soon his music made the rounds and caught the attention of other EDM artists who also uploaded his songs to their own accounts. He dropped his first album with 10 tracks, including Summer, Take it Back, Bounce, Home, Want U 2, and others, in 2016, and later that year he released the single “Alone”, which is his greatest work to date. The song was viewed over 700 million times on YouTube.
In 2017, he made many collaborations. In 2017 he released Wolves in collaboration with Selena Gomez and in the same year he also collaborated with Khalid on the title Silence. These collaborations were a great success. Others are Chasing Colors with Ookay and Twinbow with Slushii. In 2018 he worked with the rapper Lil Peep (blessed memory) on Spotlight. He released another collabo with Slushii There x2, Friends with British singer Anne-Marie and every day with rapper Logic.
Nominations and Awards
He has been nominated for several awards and has won some of them. In 2016 he was nominated for the best breakthrough artist (solo) by the International Dance Music Awards and for the highest newcomer award by DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs, which he won. In 2017 he was nominated by the Radio Disney Music Awards, the WDM Radio Awards, the mtvU Woodie Awards, the Electronic Music Awards for the best dance track, best trending track, Woodie to Watch and the New Artist of the Year. The masked DJ is currently living the dream and would never have wished for more. He’s probably one of the happiest people in the music industry right now, especially after Forbes released its annual list of the highest-paid disc jockeys in the world. By June 2017 he had earned $21 million and was ranked eighth on the list published by Forbes, although he didn’t start his music career until 2015. His net worth is estimated at 21 million dollars.
Dating and Married Life
Chris Comstock is not married and has no known history of dating or having dated anyone. There is no wife, no children, (or grandchildren) linked to the DJ.
